There is something strange about this game as I played it when I was really young and spent like... THOUSANDS of thousands times traveling, walking, lurking around not understanding a god damn clue on what was going on ! It was like I spent a full week just to find out a new clue. But in my memories, I wasn't playing a game. I really was stuck on the Myst island.

I remember playing Uru Live around 2011 and the game was largely empty, but I went through all the worlds and once while visiting the cavern I heard some people chatting. I wandered into a room that was normally empty but was full of about half a dozen people and it turns out I stumbled into a weekly D'ni language class where the players taught each other the D'ni language. I stuck around for the last bit of class and chatted with one of the guys, really nice and inviting bunch!

As someone who was never able to finish the games from this series when I was younger, by recommendation I recently got a pen and paper and completed Riven from start to finish, solving the puzzles on my own. It was absolutely amazing, one of the best experiences I'd had in a long time. I then moved back to Myst to see how it held up, and I gave up in about an hour. The games may be in the same genre, and the same series, but they are literally nothing alike, and it's honestly tragic how much more people go into the series of games nowadays with Myst instead of Riven. Only one of them manages to hold up at all to modern game design

Thanks for the upload. Played the game when I was young and now I am a senior citizen. Riven is in my thoughts always. Spend two days in my office on a Sat and Sun playing it to completion. It's not a game, it's me in Riven. The only computer game I ever played in my life, I was never interested in computer games, too busy an academic and corporate guy. It came with the PC my company purchase for me and there on my table was the disks it came with. The graphic on the cover look so esthetic and anything esthetics will get my attention. It got me and I enjoyed it, it stays in me....captivated, willingly.

Listening to this music brings back happy memories of my Dad. He loved playing Riven and Myst on his PC when I was growing up. Sadly he passed away last year.

These were made for Oculus Rift and touch~ that's what is missing! re release as an immersive virtual game... How cool would that be! I remember thinking that when I first played Myst back in the early 90's, I wish I was in the world~ You had the canvas back then, you just didn't have the crayons. :)

I remember that Riven did an impressive job at justifying its puzzles within the lore of the world, in a way that felt like the "puzzles" and world-building were almost the same or at least hand-in-hand. That's mind-bogglingly hard to do, and most games don't try very hard at all

This soundtrack is so damn good. It took a beautiful game and added an aura of mystery and even horror to it. The music was like a dose of irony: it hinted that bad things had happened here, even when the imagery seemed to suggest peace. The two, of course, some more together the more attention you pay to the background and story, and so the music itself acts like the narrator of the story, leading you on. Gives me chills whenever I listen to it, and it's a go to for me while I'm writing.

This game came out before I was born, played it as a child in the 2000's. Took me 4 years to beat Still an all time favorite to this day

I was 5 years old & LOVED watching my dad play this. I didn’t understand the game... I just loved the music, and the talking guys in the books 🤣

This was a game that me and my parents sat together in front of the computer and played. It became a family thing, and for me, that's the way it's supposed to be played - either with family or friends. It's a social thing. Of course it can be fun to grind it alone, but when you play it as a group effort, it becomes something else. People see different things, different patterns and that helps. I remember many laughs and quite a few frustrating moments - but it was always FUN. So, that's my best advice to anyone who wants to play through this game. Play it together with people and have fun!

This game was so creepy to me as a little kid. I had the 5 CD version and I just remember the game in terms of the stages that took place on each disk. My dad, my sister and myself could never make it to disks 4 and 5, and looking back I realize I was WAY too young to figure out just what exactly this game was asking of it's players. I don't think I'll ever go back and finish it, but Riven still holds a place in my core memories and probably always will.

Myst was a great world to escape to as a kid. A strange, quirky yet beautiful little world with no people except the two weirdos you keep seeing in the red and blue pages lol. The OST takes me back and is wonderfully done.

I just beat Myst for the first time the other day (I clearly wasn't smart enough as a kid), Myst definitely got me into the point and click genre that I have been really into as an adult.

I cannot begin to explain how big a role Myst and especially the sequel Riven played in my family's relationship with early home computers. Everyone played at least one or all of the series. Even my mother who has not played another PC or videogame in her life since, played Myst. I missed the beginning of the big family Christmas dinner because I was watching the climactic final cut-scene with Gehn, and when my parents were going to tell me off my aunt cut in to explain that it was really important to the story and she totally whiffed that puzzle the first time and Gehn was a real jerk about it...
