Memories:

If you're here after hearing this play on the home page of Overwatch... Welcome to NieR: Automata. We're happy to have you onboard, and we hope you have an AWESOME time playing the game we adore and mentally endured through. You're in for an absolute MASTERPIECE of a game!!

This game gave me existential crisis after I completed the true ending and I loved it. One of the best soundtracks too!

STILL the most impactful game for me. Ending E is the only moment (fulfillment?) in video games to bring me to tears, and I've played many over my entire life. God bless Yoko Taro and his mad genius.

Spoiler on the topic of "it always ends like this." Do not read before finishing the game if you are interested. 9S was first booted in 11942 (9S backstory, in-game). The year is 11945. 9S is about 3 years old. 2B has killed 9S 48 times (NieR: Orchestra Concert re:12018), whenever he approached the secret of the Moon base. All-in-all, that's an average of about 3 months between each time she had to do it. No wonder 2B was so reluctant about emotions. It always ended like this.

I gotta say this is absolutely hilarious to think that we almost didn't get one of the best games of all time because 930 is too goddamb early to get up for work 😅😅😅

Never forget the first time entering this area, it starting off with just ambience, then adding the instrumental when you start exploring the area, then adding lyrics to the song.

This legitimately is my all time favorite game. I feel bad for people who don’t get to experience it. Also definitely still get feel about the final ending, that was such a cool thing to happen.

NieR: Automata is a game I have never finished and spent a lot of time roaming around aimlessly in when I played it years ago. Videos like this make me think I should really go back and give it the time and attention it deserves.

I love this game so much , it makes me sad thinking about that I will never get to experience the story like it was the first time playing it...

Spoliers: There is a 3rd option with Pascal after the factory, where you can choose to leave him alive and simply walk out of the building, leaving him alive with his memories intact.

Still to this day one of the greatest pieces of art I’ve ever experienced, Yoko Taro is a unique genius for creating the nier series, Replicant was also a masterpiece and very close to the level of Automata too

Nier Automata was the experience that brought me back to videogames as an adult. Some of these things I would need a bit of time to remember on my own, presuming I could, but seeing them stated like this makes it clear all of it was still somewhere in my head, faded into the background. Nier Automata is so peculiar in what it does and how it does it that if I was asked about it out of the blue, and caught unprepared, I would probably answer "I don't know" or perhaps just "...". I find that's the best thing I could say about it, perhaps about any game.

One thing you didnt mention kiddo is that for the final rendition of weight of the world, the lead, professional singer eventually stops singing and all you hear is the untrained voices of the developers. Being raw, it is a true representation of the “every man” as if all of humanity is singing for you, cheering you on, like the remnants of the memory of humanity in the game.

Ah yes, the memory of playing the credits through tears and emotional uproar. I think it's time to replay it once again. 😌

I have never ever even tried to think in my whole life that I would be actually crying playing space invader with the ending credit of a game and that alone made this one of the most profound and brilliant game ever made! It proved that people could care for a complete stanger, and people are capable of love. it was also done in a way that can only be done in the gaming medium!

Sacrificing my save and seeing ending E for the first time was such a life changing moment, I absolutely bawled my eyes out, the theme song playing in all those different languages while everyone's saves come together 😭😭 such an unbelievably touching moment that I'm so thankful to have experienced

I will never forget my first time playing NieR Automata and coming across the Amusement Park boss for the first time It was the single most impactful, catching, and purely hype moment I'd ever experienced to that point and that feeling never left or faded Watching the curtains draw back for her introduction, the boss begging the player to look at her whole camera control is taken away, the intense imagery of all the stripped down crucified androids It was all so incredible and really had me on the edge of my seat and after the fight I had to sit back and take a minute

Great analysis! I always like to discover that more people were impacted like me by Automata. I especially liked the discussion about it being "not not just a game", when you say that Automata isn't pretentious or overly self-indulgent. When I think about it, well... I feel that it kinda is, but never to an obnoxious extent; like you said, it never forget that it's a game and I it's terribly good at that too. I guess you have to be a little pretentious when you try to lift the medium up.
