RuneScape - Scape Original
Memories:
-
A moment of silence for those friends you met online who would spare you with sweet cool items. Who carried you through a small journey that meant the world to you. For those friends who would stay up past 3am just to mine that iron ore with you. For the friends that made you feel comfortable enough to talk about your tough days in middle school. A moment of silence for the ones that logged off forever ... Amen

Nobody will ever experience what we did. When the internet was new and none of us understood the scope of the world. We logged in and for the first time could not only play a MMO for the first time, but do so without countless other people. It was such a new and fresh experience back then. We found the magic in the world that most of us can’t find now. Each red dot on the mini map was the possibility of treasure. You had no idea what was around the next corner. Max level was a dream, even standing around was fun because the world was so magical. R.I.P childhood.

Things Runescape taught me. 1. I learned to type faster than anyone in my grade. 2. Learned internet slang (idk, lol, lmao) 3. It made me more cultured meeting people from different countries. 4. Taught me to not ne naive when meeting new people 5. Taught me what its like to admire hard work and goals Many, many Great memories.

Man, I remember saying something in 2008 to Regicidal that I’ve never forgotten. That, at that time, we were in the golden age of Runescape content creation. That it wasn’t gonna get any better. And for well over a decade, I thought about how true that statement was. That 2008 was the golden age. That it did all go downhill from there. I’m so happy that statement is no longer true. Even though I don’t sink as much time into the game as I used to, the amount of content and excitement I’ve seen and felt with this game over just the past few years has really made me feel that we’re in a golden age right now. And I hope that golden age doesn’t end any time soon.

Happiest years of my life. When I was finally able to convince my mom to pay 5$ a month for members, I would wake up 2 hours before school just to play. And nothing else in my life has motivated me to wake up early

I like how a lot of people in the comments have warm sentimental & nostalgic feelings towards this music, while in essence it is basic MIDI sounds. Another proof that music doesn't have to be expensive or extremely complicated. I felt a similar experience with a pretty simple punksong I knew from my childhood (out of a game soundtrack as well) recently. It conveys a message, an image, a visualisation, memories, nostalgia, lots of different feelings, ... IT'S ART

The small talk with strangers was really special in this game. I remember playing it 10 years ago while I was babysitting. I was mining in the Mining Guild and started talking with the only other dude there. After 10 minutes or so, he shares that he lost his mother 3 years ago. Didn't ask for anything, just appreciated me for listening. One of the most intense conversations I had with someone was in Runescape.

its really funny hearing ppl say that nostalgia is the only reason this game is successful when ive sunk hundreds of hours into it in the past few months after starting to play and i never once even heard about it as a kid, goated game fr

I'll say it OSRS might have the greatest soundtrack in gaming history at the very least top 5. Every song and you instantly knew where you are and every song brings back certain memories. Only a small handful of gaming soundtracks have that power

My big brother showed me RuneScape when I was 11. I’ve played off and on since then. I am 23 now and my brother passed away 2 years ago. This game and soundtrack have a special place in my heart. Brings back so many memories ❤️

Never played RS when I was little. Started playing OSRC as my first Jagex game a year ago and have been loving it.

Man, we grew up together. In a weird way I feel like I know the people in this comment section even if we’ve never met. I wonder how many of us have met online or walked past eachother years ago. Here’s to all us fellow late 20’s early 30’s folks who shared that experience. Maybe we’ll hop back on one day.

Came back to relive the experience of runescape, but I stayed for all the new ones I never got to have when I was a kid. I love exploring all the aspects of the game that used to be out of my reach.

I remember going to the library to play RuneScape secretly because I had an hour time limit at home. Would play for hours there and got my first 99 (cooking cape) at the library. Good memories

Just graduated college and got a job. I miss the days when I was blissfully unaware of everything and just playing this. Now the world is under a pandemic as I enter the working world. Never knew how much I would cherish those days.

Damn every time I listen to this it really does bring me back to ten year old me. Nothing can compare back to 2005 hanging out with friends then coming home and logging onto Runescape and MSN. Armour or weapon stats didn't matter to me as long as it looked cool or was expensive. Playing for fun and the experience not caring about efficiency, literally walking everywhere rather than teleing. I remember being so happy getting my first full Rune set, buying it on World 1 at Varrock East bank. Another milestone was my parents finally caving in and getting me a month of membership, walking through the gate for the first time north of Fally into members lands.

This game is actually one of the best games ever to be released. People born in the late 90s and 2000s probably missed out on this. If you experienced this game around age 13 you probably get emotional just hearing the login music.

as someone who never played OSRS as a kid and just started playing last year as an adult OSRS is legit just a well designed MMO
