Pikmin 2 - Perplexing Pool
Memories:
-
A minor thing I love about the series is that in each new game the Pikmin are shown to have advanced In the first game they’re at or near the bottom of the food chain but by the second game they’ve learned from Olimar and worked there way, up, even managing to survive long enough to develop new offshoots, and by the third one they’re practically the dominant species Also the song they sing about how much they love Olimar and wish he didn’t have to leave breaks my heart

"... the proper dandori" was the first hint that this was, in fact, made in 2023 and not 6 years ago. That's how timeless this series is

My canon event was losing 70 purple pikmin to a falling bomb when I was 11. Devastating.

Pikin 2 was the best over all. Pikmin 3 was the most beautiful visually and was still a lot of fun. pikmin one while amazing doesnt hold a candle to one or two. EXCEPT in TWO PARTS- 1)Emperor Bulblax is an awesome and epic final boss. 2)The best enemy in the series is only in the first game, the PUFFSTOOL :D

Nothing compares to Chuggaaconroys reaction to jinxing himself with the water wraith for the first time. I genuinely laughed for hours after seeing it for the first time when I was younger.

Pikmin 2's music was the first time I actually paid attention to soundtrack in video games. I noticed that certain melodies would play when a boss attacked, and paid more attention to soundtrack ever since. It's been quite a few years, but I still pay attention to soundtrack in games.

Reading the silly item descriptions was some of the most fun I had with Pikmin 2 as a kid, and just the silly items overall (crayons, chocolates, jewelry, toys, all with silly misinterpretive names). Somehow prefering the limited (but still fun) ship parts of Pikmin 1 just seems weird. It was like he wanted to cover as much of his negative thoughts on the game as possible, even if it was only a minor complaint, like I feel in this case.

I remember the time when Pikmin Tree was ported to the Switch and everyone on Twitter started posting clips of them getting their whole squad eaten, blown away, squashed, drowned, burned, and overall anihiliated. And always said something like "haha funny quirky game". Same thing when Pikmin 4 dropped. But when that same stuff happened to them in Pikmin 2, suddenly the game is unfair, unbalanced, broken and totally not their fault.

One of my most fond memories is watching Chuggaconroy’s let’s play of Pikmin 2. I have such fond feelings for this game for the cozy feeling of watching Emile play it. The Piklopedia theme is burned into my mind as nostalgia

I played Pikmin 2 so much growing up that I knew something was special about the music, but I didn’t realize it went this far! Reminds me of how the original System Shock handled its music, though most of it seems lost to time.

A lot of people complain that Olimar doesn’t have as much personality or character in Pikmin 2 as in the first game, but those who say that probably have never read through Olimar’s journals in the Piklopedia

I miss when games were actually allowed to be difficult, Pikmin 4 felt like it was just on autopilot

I remember Pikmin 1 being too stressful. Pikmin 3 is too easy and too short. Pikmin 2 felt perfect. I personally loved crawling through all the caves. They were these oppressive puzzles and were just so atmospheric. Not to mention all the crazy bossfights. NOT TO MENTION THE PIKLOPEDIA!!

Man the adaptive music was something a just took for granted when I was a kid since pikmin was one of the first games I played, but I just straight had no idea they made RANDOMIZED music. I mean come on, its so god damn well done I didn’t have a clue it was random

The Wistful Wild theme is legitimately one of the best songs in a Nintendo game.

I started playing through pikmin 1&2 a few days ago and found myself wondering why I don’t remember the pikmin 2 music as fondly or maybe at all nearly as much as I remember pikmin 1’s music as a kid, this blew my mind and explains it perfectly!

You missed something important: without pikmin 2, we wouldn't get the masterpiece that is Bikmin 269 .

Pikmin 2 and Luigi's Mansion were the two games I played the most at 4 years old and I have fond memories of them BECAUSE they were a bit challenging at that time and I had to practice to get better. A good game doesn't let you win SYSTEMATICALLY ALL THE TIME. Frustrating the gamer is part of the experience to make them better and appreciate the challenge. I prefer Pikmin 2 in this aspect than Pikmin 4. Pikmin 4 had a bigger focus on the speedruning aspect which is nice but not as rewarding in my opinion.

I like to think of game development as an equivalent to normal evolution: At first, the core skelleton exists and if it survives, the next stage gets activated: explosion of ideas. After that, the balance begins to kick in again after all these ideas undergo natural selection by players and reviewers.

The thing about notes missing when your pikmin number lowers back below 10 really blew my mind! I never noticed it outright but I remember getting this weird "empty" feeling when I lost many pikmin. It was definitely a downer, like "is it even worth it to keep going?" I love the music in Pikmin 2 even more now, I never really pay attention to it while playing because it flows so perfectly with everything happening in-game, it makes me really "feel" the music more than listen to it! It made a huge impression on me as a kid
