I love the restored version of the soundtrack, but there's definitely a charm in the compression of the SNES samples. I remember an old Game Informer podcast interview with David Wise where he explained how he selected certain synths and instruments specifically because they sounded good if not better after going through the filters and compression for the SNES. It probably is the best soundtrack on the system whether it's the restored or classic version.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is the greatest 2D platformer ever made. In my personal opinion. The game never ran out of ideas, which is the trademark of the truly best games. But what really pushes the game over the edge is the soundtrack, which is just magical. Truly a masterpiece.

As a game developer, let me tell ya: don't ever be sorry for emulating old games especially if this was your only way to experience them as a child. This is the only reasonable way to keep these games relevant since it's not feasible for companies to make a reasonable profit out of them anymore. Please keep playing them and back them up.

The original trilogy is probably one of best controlling games of all time: the abundance of frames, the near-zero lag provided by the CRT TV and wired controller, it's just another level of controllability. While emulation and lcd panels have come a long way, if you ever have the chance to play the DK trilogy how it was meant to be played: on original hardware with a CRT TV, don't lose the chance, you'll have a great time! Plus, the SNES sound chip sounds freaking amazing and DK squeezed and pushed the chip to the limit, the soundtrack legit gives me goosebumps.

Love the video. DK2 is not just the best sequel, it's, in my opinion, the best 2D platformer of all time. The improvements, the gameplay, and my God, the soundtrack. The soundtrack is something I still listen to even decades later. I'm a teacher. DK2 soundtrack is something that plays in the back whenever my students do individual work or if we're drawing/coloring stuff for science. Amazing game.

I remember when I was 8 and I saw this at the local flea market for 10 dollars. So I asked my parents if I could to chores around the house to get it for my gameboy advanced. So 4 weeks later of hard work and dedication I finally got enough money to get it. I bought it, and I loved it. This was my first DKC game, it introduced me to The DKC franchise. Up until 2 years later. I was cleaning some old junk out of my room and I got rid of my gameboy advance since I broke it (But I had a gameboy advance sp so I wasn't to down) Forgetting I had the game in there until 2 weeks later when I realized, I f#cked up.

Honestly, no amount of praise is fully sufficient for this game. It's easily one of the best of all time, definitely a top 5 on the console. If you're talking strictly platformers, than calling it number 1 is about right.

I'm 32 years old and I keep playing the DK SNES trilogy since they came out. Not only these games started my love for video games which lets me feel nostalgic, to this day these games are fun to play. These are timeless gems.

I think the most nostalgic aspect of this game is the music. Every level a masterpiece for the years. I used to listen to them before going to bed. They all tell a story. I love it.
