I can’t believe how many times they set out to do character redesigns, when to this day, Alucard in SoTN still is the drippiest protagonist ever.

This was my introduction to the Castlevania series, and I still love it to this day. Listening to the OSTs give me nostalgia

Remember in 1999, when we all had to fight Dracula? And then we all went to see the Matrix? Good weekend

I remember playing Castlevania as a kid. When I finally beat Dracula, my friend ran down the street and told his parents as though we'd achieved some heroic deed.

Dracula's Tears is by far my favourite. Gotta love how Michiru Yamane mixes that jazz piano with "dark castle" music.

Oh man, this was the first Castlevania game I ever played; I didn't even know it was a sequel at the time. I still love it. That said, there is actually a difference between the Soul systems of Aria and Dawn. Souls in Dawn often start out with a power of 1/9 or 1/3, which would increase by 1 for every 1 or 3 souls you collect, respectively, whereas in Aria, all Souls just have 1 power level. This makes for even more grinding fun time, yay!

Me and my friends loved playing this game at school lol, we would always pass the ds around every few minutes or after a death. Listening to the remastered songs really makes me wanna go trough another playthrough of the game but WITH the remastered music.. it's so good. Great job my dude. Edit: Oh my lifeeeee. Dracula's Tears Sax Version was something i never know i wanted but cannot live without anymore, IT'S SO GROOVY!!

Thanks for having me on John!!! (skip to 17:40 for Soul Grind Dance Montage with my track in the background) I got into the Castlevania series from the Johnny vs. reviews of the NES games about 10 years ago, but somehow this game (AoS) was the one I played first - and it became my favorite game of all time. Never thought he'd be dancing to my music for his review of it one day😂. How things come full circle!

I just watched a 7 hour documentary on Castlevania. This is not something I ever expected I would say the first time I popped Castlevania 2 into my NES 35 years ago.

This game also had the best rendition of Bloody Tears in the entire series, to my mind. Castlevania OSTs are nearly always fantastic, but this one is good even by those standards.

I played the duology for the first time a few months ago and let me just say I loved them. Great gameplay, great music and a memorable cast especially Soma Cruz. If only we could've gotten a 1999 game.

You have to remember SOTN released before internet was really widely available. I remember beating it as a kid and throughly enjoying it. Then a couple years later a friend revealing to me that there's a whole second half to the game! It was mind boggling for the time.

I've never been a fan of Castlevania (now I'm not much of a gamer anymore), but I really loved this game. Everything was so interesting and I feel so much nostalgia recalling being on my bed and playing for hours in the dark. Good times. I really have to play it again soon.

This was the only game in this series that I've actually played through the whole "Julius" mode. Definitely one of the best second campaigns, with the switchable characters, exclusive boss and ending that makes sense inside the universe.

"Aria of Sorrow" was my first metroidvania, and my first Castlevania game. It's still my go-to when I'm looking for a Castlevania game I can turn my brain off to late at night. I liked "Dawn of Sorrow", but it's been a LONG time since I've played it, and don't remember much. I should probably change that soon.

Great overview of the game! I got into Castlevania myself a few years ago, and Aria and Dawn or probably my favourite two. It's also become one of my top gaming series' and I can't wait for Bloodstained now! It's worth noting there is actually another patch out there that completely removes the seals in the main game so they function just like in Julius mode (As in, you don't need to do them AT ALL). It also makes the touchscreen breakable iceblocks also breakable by normal weapons. It essentially makes it so you don't need to use the touchscreen at all. Much better for emulated play. If you Google 'Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow No Required Touch Screen' it should come up at the top!
