I can’t believe how many times they set out to do character redesigns, when to this day, Alucard in SoTN still is the drippiest protagonist ever.

This brings me so many memories... But what can I say? I'm dead after all...

The fight was pretty hard but I managed to win on the first try. To hear him scream "Shanoa!" as he died briought me to tears, honestly. Really sad moment, but this is nothing compare to the ending.

Childhood memories flooding all back. I still own the game to this day thankfully. Love this series so much.

I remember playing Castlevania as a kid. When I finally beat Dracula, my friend ran down the street and told his parents as though we'd achieved some heroic deed.

I love Order of Ecclesia. However, I love every Castlevania game for what it is: a story about an eternal struggle of life. If you think about it, each game is another person's struggle to overcome their own problems, like Simon's curse, or Shanoa's lost memories, or Jonathan's inability to use the Vampyre Killer in Portrait of Ruin. The over-arcing story shows that every person is dealing with a different issue, and needs to do different things to overcome the problem. That's the overall message of the Castlevania series: We may have an overall goal, but we all have different steps to get there.

Chamber of Ruin has always been my favorite since I first played this game when I was young, and your remastered version really makes it better! Thank you for your fantastic work!

I just watched a 7 hour documentary on Castlevania. This is not something I ever expected I would say the first time I popped Castlevania 2 into my NES 35 years ago.

Best ost of all time, these musics are a profound mix of understanding, remembrance and touch of this part deep inside of me which awakens its melancholy side. Incredible, I will never forget. Nostrorum vires erunt. Quod nigrum potentia malum esse superaturam. Dracula iubentium, et in gloria !

You have to remember SOTN released before internet was really widely available. I remember beating it as a kid and throughly enjoying it. Then a couple years later a friend revealing to me that there's a whole second half to the game! It was mind boggling for the time.

Wandering the Crystal Blue arranged is goooooorgeous. This OST is pure class all round, though. Along with Aria of Sorrow, Symphony of the Night and Super Castlevania IV, it ranks as having one of the best OSTs of the series. Portrait of Ruin has some decent tracks too.

The first time I beat Albus, his giant energy ball hit me right when he died and killed me as well, and the game didn't count the victory, so I had to fight him again. And I wasn't mad at all because then I could have that awesome fight with this completely awesome music again.

No criticisms for Order of Ecclesia? I can't think of any either. What a fucking masterpiece.

Most of the music is just amazing. This is one of the best Castlevania games I have played so far. Still got to play PS2/3 Castlevania games so quite excited about that.

14 years ago, and only now I realise that Albus was voiced by Keith Silverstein.

Back in the 80s, my dad and I were huge 80s horror movie fans, he let me watch a lot. He brought home this game for me out of nowhere because he saw the horror elements on the box, ever since then I've played every Castlevania game, thanks dad. And good job on this frickin 8 hour video, you got another sub.

I just finished this 7 hour behemoth of a retrospective, and I have to say this was one of the greatest videos I've ever come across on yt. Thank you for this dive into the entirety of the castlevania franchise. I started with SotN so many years ago, and had no idea of the history leading up to that gem. Thanks for all the work you put into this. Truly a great example of why I visit YouTube at all.

Someone already probably pointed it out, but the Clock room on SotN where you said you didn't know you were supposed to find out about the statue, when you reach that place the very first time and encounter Maria, the game makes the statue move as a way to tell you that there is a way up there, if the player is paying attention he might try to jump and not reach, then later after finding the double jump upgrade he will probably remember the statue part.

When I played Rondo for the first time in the 2010s as soon as the opening cutscene started playing my reaction was "holy crap, wait a minute, what year was this again?" i was so impressed by the entire presentation all the way through to the first boss battle

This is a phenomenal achievement. I dig long form game criticism/analyses/histories and you’ve made something remarkable here, something I will rewatch over and over. Within the past two months I’ve purchased the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, the Castlevania Advance Collection, and Castlevania: Requiem. I’ve had so much fun playing all these games, most that I missed out on first time around, and to watch this transcendent video at this specific time is magical. Big Ups IFAVG! Thank you so much.

Harmony of Despair is a great game that I will always revisit once in a while. It can still be played on emulator with full online functionality, and there's a small but active community still keeping it going on Discord. The grind can be pretty rough but it's a fun experience I would recommend to any fan of the series.
